The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) is a state-owned company that was established with the aim of building, operating, and maintaining dedicated freight corridors across India. DFCCIL’s main objective is to enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of the Indian Railways in the transportation of goods by providing a seamless and cost-effective alternative to the existing railway network. DFCCIL’s dedicated freight corridors consist of two main routes: the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) and the Eastern DFC. The Western DFC spans over 1,500 km, connecting Delhi with Mumbai, and passes through six states. The Eastern DFC spans over 1,800 km, connecting Ludhiana in Punjab with Dankuni in West Bengal, and passes through eight states. These corridors are designed to carry high-density traffic, with faster transit times, improved reliability, and lower unit costs.
